We will be going through the book of Psalm 103, the meaning verse by verse today. This bible scripture is a Psalm of King David, like many other books of Psalms. Psalm 103 is a song of praise to God, adoring Him for showing us undeserved mercy. King David knew the importance of God’s grace, how He showeth mercy to those who deserve, and those who don’t deserve it. This Psalm is a song of praise, and it shows reasons to bless and honor God.

Moreover, this Psalm 103 is majorly for praising God for His enduring mercies, the goodness of God, and one who never fails in showing man His kindness. God has blessed us and showed us unending mercies in many ramifications, and the only way we can show gratitude is to honor Him with our praise.

Since we’ve explained the usefulness and when the scripture can be used to pray, it is expedient that we reveal each of this scripture for a better understanding:

PSALM 103 meaning verse by verse

  Verses 1-2  Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.

These verses can be prayed to bless God for all His benefits. King David understood the importance of blessing God, so he did it with the whole of his heart. Hence the statement blesses the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me. These verses can be sung as a song of praise to God as a way of showing God that you are not taking any of His blessings over your life for granted. Praising God shouldn’t be outward worship alone but should be done wholeheartedly. Also, while giving thanks, we should not forget to thank Him for all of The benefits that we are enjoying.

Verses 3-4 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

These verses can be prayed when blessing God for His benefits. We understand that we sin a lot, yet God has always been kind enough to forgive us. This is enough reason to Praise Him. Another great benefit we enjoy is God’s healing. He gives us healing, both physical and spiritual healings. He heals us of each of our infirmities and also spares us from destruction. These two verses can be prayed to thank God for forgiving us of each of our sins and saving us from destructions for redeeming our souls too.

Verses 5-6: Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s: The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

These two verses can be rendered when praising God for always satisfying us and allowing good things to happen to us all the time. We can also thank God for always renewing our strength and for always fighting our battles and standing up for the oppressed. He gives power to the powerless and vindicates the righteous. God is great and mighty.

Verses  7-10 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger forever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

These verses can be rendered as a song of praise to God for not hiding the good intentions He has for us even though we disobey Him sometimes. God is full of grace and compassion for humankind. He gets angry but slowly and after shows mercy and love in abundance. This is to show that God is truly a merciful God. He is good, kind, and loving. God will not fight with us not to deal with us according to our sins but to show us undeserving favor. He allows His mercy to cloud His judgment for us. He doesn’t get angry with us for a very long time. He also gives room for us to change. We can bless the name of the Lord using these verses because He is gracious, loving, and above all, MERCIFUL.

Verses 11-13; For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us? Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.

These verses show us how abundant the mercies of God are. The distance between heaven and earth is used to express how unending the mercies of God toward us is. God loves us so much unconditionally. He shows sympathy to His children. The way a good father cares for his children is how God cares for us too.

Verses 14-16: For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone, and the place thereof shall know it no more.

God knows us, He created us, He formed us, and He knows our weaknesses and strength. These verses describe man’s creations. How man flourishes in the day and withers at night.

Verses 17-19: But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children; To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them. The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

These verses explained that the mercies of the Lord are from everlasting to everlasting. It is unending. Those who fear the Lord are shown the secrets of God; they receive God’s blessings and favor from generation to generation. God is a covenant-keeping God, His promises are everlasting, and His mercies are showed without giving conditions. God reigns over all things both in heaven and on earth. He has established himself in heaven and rules over all things. This shows the greatness of God and Praising Him for being a great God

Verses 20-22   Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word: Bless ye the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure: Bless the Lord, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the Lord, O my soul.

These verses show the difference between God and His angels. The angels also knew the importance of worshipping the Supreme Being and obeying His words. King David here was admonishing all that God has created to acknowledge God to praise Him, for He is good and His mercies endured forever. All God’s work should forever bless His holy name as He is mighty, just, faithful, and full of mercy.
