Let us take a look at Psalm 127 meaning verse by verse in our study today. Psalm 127 lays emphasis on the blessings of Gods. As Christians, we are meant to know that without God we are nothing. The builders of the towers, cities, churches, empires, watchmen of the cities and all labor in vain without the help of God. But with God’s intervention, He gives rest and blesses the works of the hand.

Laborers require skills and strength before they can build a house. Meanwhile, they should remember that while planning to build a house, if God is not involved in their plans, their efforts will prove abortive. Babel builders wanted to build high towers and city but the Lord confused their languages because he was angry with them. However, things were different in Solomon’s case when he decided to erect a building for the lord. The Lord blessed him and his project became a reality. This verse is a subtle reminder that we are nothing without God. He remains the master builder.
Similarly, when the watchmen stay guarded and perform their duties in keeping the people safe in a city but if God decides to look away, we are not safe in the hands of the watchmen. Except if he watches us, we are as good as dead. Therefore, In all endeavors, as long as we involve God, everything will be prosperous.
Verse 2:t is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
The second verse also reaffirms the fact that we need God in our day to day activities. It will be a waste of resources, energy, and effort if we work from morning till night hoping to get food and at the end come home empty-handed. Some even go as far as starving themselves off good food and sleep. All this comes back to a lack of faith in Christ Jesus. By faith, God delivers his own from the struggles of life and bless them more even while he gives them rest. Just as Jesus slept in the midst of a hurly-burly storm. He was calm because he knew he was in the Father’s hand.
Verse 3:Lo, children are the heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
One of the greatest blessings from God is to have devoted children. Verse 3 directs us to the importance of children in a household. What is the purpose of building a house when there is no one to inherit it? Or what gain is there when a man acquires so much wealth but he has no heir? God gives children a favor. If He doesn’t give us children, the man remains childless forever with no one to inherit properties and most importantly his name. In the same manner, we are helpless without God.
Verse 4:As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
A man at war is glad when he sees is a weapon. In the same vein, sons are their father’s weapon, Children are born as a gift to their parent at an early age. When they grow up they become their comfort. We must learn to teach our children while they are still young the right ways to God so that when they grow, they won’t depart from it. Proper education is also an essential tool that aids child upbringing A child who is not brought up in the way of the lord and taught the proper values of how to behave in a society will be useless not only to himself but to society at large. Thereby causing pain and discomfort to his parents.
Verse 5:Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Although, it is believed that having many children comes with many trials and difficulty but with faith in Christ, the troubles shall pass and there will be so much joy and happiness in such a household. But those who have no children experience deep sorrow. When children are like weapons, it is well to have a house full of them. But if they are compared to sticks few are preferred. Generally speaking, this favor comes from the lord. Without him, there will be no children to build and without his grace, there won’t be good children to comfort their parents. Therefore let us hand over everything to God so that we can enjoy a life of full of peace
