5 Consoling Prayers For Bereavement

Today we will be dealing with 5 consoling prayers for bereavement.

Bereavement is a state of hard sorrow for the loss or death of loved ones. It is not a good thing for one to lose someone close, death is horrible especially when it happens to the people we care about. Truly, people say the time has a way of healing the deepest of all wounds. However, some pains won’t go away even when you give them all the time in the world. Only God can truly take away the sorrow of bereavement.

How do you console someone who has just lost his only child to the cold hands of death? How do you comfort a young man or woman that suddenly became an orphan? There are no words that proceed from the mouth of a man that can heal such pain, only God can.

How to overcome Bereavement

As believers, our lives are programmed in the doctrine of Christ Jesus. We don’t have to live our lives like every other person is, we are different. There is a channel we can call for help that others can’t. Although there is a time of pain and sorrow in the life of any man, however, we always take solace in the fact that Christ has got us.

Besides the word of encouragement and admonition from people, here are three practical ways we can overcome bereavement.

Build Your Faith in The Lord

Faith is the currency of the spirit. Our faith in the lord will facilitate our healing process in the time of sorrow. Job was able to overcome the pain of losing all his children and property because he has faith in the Lord. He believes that if God has promised something He would fulfill it.

The scripture says in the book of Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. There is a glory that will be revealed in us. It is eternal glory, our faith in the Lord will strengthen us not to be weary in times of great sorrow and sadness.

Ask For Help

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

God is our present help in the moment of need. And He has promised to help us through the Holy Spirit. The holy spirit is the comforter, He only can truly comfort us. When pain and sorrow take over our hearts, we must endeavor to ask for the help of God.

The holy spirit has the power to heal us from wounds or pain. You will only discover that the pain is going gradually. The power of the holy spirit will overshadow you and you will be filled with the joy of the holy ghost.

Use The Scripture

Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

The word of God is powerful and it can take away our pain. God has promised us in the scripture, He said I know the thoughts I have towards you, they are the thoughts of good and not evil to give you an expected end. He said just like the earth is far from heaven, so also are His thoughts from ours.

Many times we don’t see the hand of God in our situation especially when we are bereaved. God could have made some things happen to save us from a pending catastrophe. This is why we must trust and believe in the word of God. The scripture says everything works together for good for those that love God and act according to His Will.

This is a reassurance that everything will be okay. Revelation 21:4
‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” These words assure us that God is with us even in our predicament. And this helps heal the pain in our hearts.

Prayer Points:

• The scripture makes me understand in the book of Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Holy Spirit of God I need you now than ever before, I ask that you will come and comfort me. I pray that you will let me bask in the joy of the holy ghost even amid my predicaments, in the name of Jesus.
• The Bible says blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted. Lord Jesus, I ask that you come mightily into my heart. You alone understand my pain and you know the source at which the pain is, I ask that you will go to the source of the pain and you will take it away by your mighty hands. I ask that you will fill my heart with love and happiness far beyond my pain and sorrow in the name of Jesus.
• Lord, in this time of sorrow, I pray that you will cause my eyes to see the light of your love. I ask that you will make me see a beam of hope and encouragement in your only son Jesus Christ. Now that I walk through a road filled with darkness, I pray that you will be the light in my path. Now that my heart is filled with sadness, I pray that you will be my happiness in the name of Jesus.
• Father Lord, I ask that by your mercy, you will heal my wound. I ask that you will cause me to forget my pain as you work on my heart to remember good memories. I pray that you will bless me with the strength to face each new day with hope and trust in you, in the name of Jesus.
• Father Lord, help me to look beyond the scar that is left in my heart by pain. Grant me the fortitude to move on with life with great hope and my life encircled with your love and blessings. Help me to remember nothing but joy and guide my heart to be strong with faith and hope that I will not know sorrow again. Grant me the grace to believe that I shall overcome this present pain. This I ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
