Today we shall be engaging in prayer for the nation of Gambia. Officially named the republic of Gambia in 1965 after gaining independence from the colonial rule of the British government. Though, Gambia was first noticed by the Portuguese who had begun colonization of some African states even before the British empire could think of coming into Africa. However, the Portuguese lose grip over Gambia in 1765 and the British government took over the territory of Gambia.
Gambia is greatly surrounded by the republic Senegal, as a matter of fact, during the colonial rule, the country was named Senegambia. When the nation of Gambia gained independence in 1965 which put an end to colonization, the government was built on multi-party liberal, Dawda Jawara ruled the country from Independence till 1996 when a bloodless coup was staged which threw him out of office. Yahya Jammeh was installed as the president under an authoritarian system of government. However, the country became a full democratic one in 2016 when Adama Barrow won the election.

The economy of Gambia is strongly built on subsistence agriculture. It must be noted that any nation whose economy is built on subsistence agricultural practises is an underdeveloped country. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the poverty level in Gambia gallantly sit at 74% especially in the rural areas.
I have heard different cases of God not being fair in distribution of wealth to different countries on earth. Meanwhile, God is not partial nor biase, He has given every man the potential to make exceeding wealth from the available resources that He has provided. The difference between United States of America and some badly underdeveloped countries in Africa is just the people.
Having said that, the scripture made it known that God owns the heart of man and kings and He direct it like the flow of rivers. Proverbs 21:1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. 2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. If we all raise an altar of prayer for the nation of Gambia, God can change the heart of the people.
WHY YOU SHOULD PRAY FOR THE NATION OF GAMBIA
God said we should pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and those that love it shall prosper. Psalms 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Aside from the divine mandate to always pray for the peace of Jerusalem, it is also our collective duty to ensure that things are going well and fine in our society.
Should there be any abnormality in the society we live in, it is we the people who have refused to pray for the country that will still suffer the heavy blow of it. Judging by all these facts and reasons, it is important to raise an altar prayer for the nation of Gambia.
PRAY FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF GAMBIA
Africans are always swift to condemn government whenever things go wrong in the country. It is our collective duty to always pray for our leaders that they may succeed in office. Many a times, it becomes too difficult for nation leaders to confront the strong man holding down the success of the nation. The men at the corridor of authority also needs men of prayers who will pull down the stronghold of the enemy against the nation.
PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE OF GAMBIA
Rebellion and the act of defiant behaviour among people does not just spring out of them. It can only become permissible when the people are pushed to the war. Similar to the occurrence that happened in the book of 1 Samuel 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. The people that once chanted King David’s name, the people that once swore their allegiance to the rulership of King David now spake of stoning him to death. That is what can happen to people when the troubles and tribulations becomes unbearable. The people of Namibia needs prayer for the grace to be strong in this trying moments and Grace to remain with God without minding the present situation.
PRAY FOR THE ECONOMY OF GAMBIA
Many a times,we tend to forget that the spiritual controls the physical. We are ignorant of the fact that nothing happens in the physical unless it has been finalised in the realms of the spirit.
That’s why we are so swift to turn to experts in economics whenever there is an abnormality in the state of our economy, forgetting that their is a God of all possibility that can do exceedingly even far beyond our expectations. While saying a prayer for the nation of Gambia, let’s try to remember the economy. If the economy of a nation is good, the people will prosper, there will be no hindrance for becoming successful for every individual in that country.
PRAY FOR THE CHURCH
The scripture says and the light shine so bright that the darkeness comprehend it not. The churches in Gambia must have the illuminating light of Christ. A light that will make people see their potentials in Christ Jesus, a light that will penetrate the understanding the people which will bring them to the realization that God have a better plans for them.
Also, there is a need for a new breed of worshippers. This can only be achieved through the fire of revival that will spread across the length and breath of the nation.
Without much ado, we won’t be doing a great help for humanity alone when we say a prayer for the nation of Gambia, we will always be fulfilling God’s purpose for lives to be a nation of Priests of God.

13). Father, in the name of Jesus, let every gang up against the continuous growth and expansion of the church of Christ in Gambia be crushed permanently – Matthew. 21:42
14). Father, in the name of Jesus, let the wickedness of the wicked against this nation come to an end even as we pray now – Psalm. 7:9
15). Father, in the name of Jesus, vent your anger upon all the perpetrators of wanton killings in this nation, as you rain up on all them fire, brimstone and a horrible tempest, thereby granting permanent rest to the citizens of this nation – Psalm. 7:11, Psalm11:5-6
16). Father, in the name of Jesus, we decree the rescue of Gambia from the powers of darkness contending against her destiny – Ephesians. 6:12
17). Father, in the name of Jesus, release your instruments of death and destruction against every agent of the devil set to destroy the glorious destiny of this nation – Psalm 7:13
18). Father, by the blood of Jesus, release your vengeance in the camp of the wicked and restore our lost glory as a nation. -Isaiah 63:4
19). Father in the name of Jesus, let every evil imagination of the wicked against this nation fall upon their own heads, resulting in the advancement of this nation – Psalm 7:9-16

46). Father, in the name of Jesus, supernaturally restore the economy of this nation and let this land be filled with laughter again – Joel 2:25-26
47). Father, in the name of Jesus, bring an end to the economic woes of this nation thereby restoring her past glory – Proverbs 3:16

57). Father, in the name of Jesus, scatter every agenda of the devil to frustrate the electoral process in the forthcoming elections in Gambia- Isaiah 8:9
