Many parents don’t know that it is important to always pray for their children in Colleges, Universities, Polytechnics and other tertiary institutions. Most times, all they do is pray for protection for their children when they are off to school and only remember to pray for them when they are about writing examination.
As much as it is important to pray for your children when they are writing exams, it is also very important to always pray for them daily. In the University, there are different type of people from different works of life, Little wonder, it is called a Universal City, it is a place where culture, belief and spiritual norms of most child is being melted down by evil friend causing them to adopt a new culture different to the one that you have brought them up with.
Have you not heard cases of some child turning from normal into strange when they gain admission into school, they started acting strange or start having a defiant behavior. They have been I influenced by another strong dominating character stronger than the one you trained them with. Also, some children are fortunate to meet good friends in school that will change them from bad to good. You will just discover that a child that barely pray for 10 minutes start praying well and constantly building up their relationship with God.
As parents, we owe our children a duty of prayer, the tertiary institution is a testing ground for all the pieces of training that you have given them since they were kids. This is because they will be coming home only once in a while, they will begin to spend most of their time in school, hostels or off-campus. Little wonder, the Bible says train up your child in the way of the Lord so that when he grows he won’t depart from it. But it is not enough to just train them in the way of the Lord and leave them to face the trouble and challenges of life alone all by themselves, you as parents should make sure your altar of prayer for them keeps burning all the time.
A quick trip into the scripture just to establish how long an evil counsel can go in the life of a child. 2nd Samuel 15:31 Then someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O LORD, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!” It was the counsel of Ahithophel that helped Absalom take the throne away from David. David as a parent understands the power of evil counsel, instead of praying for a miracle to happen, he rather prayed that the counsel of Ahithophel become foolishness, which God granted. Lo and behold, David was able to take the throne again.
You as a parent must be able to design the life of your children in school through prayers, the type of friends they will keep, the hall of residence that they will stay, the lecturers that will take them.
We have highlighted some prayers that you should say for your children in the University and other tertiary institutions.
1. Pray for Wisdom, Knowledge, and Understanding
The university is not a joking center. If a parent should capitalize on the fact that my child is very brilliant in secondary, he will surely do well in the institutions, well that may not be correct for all schools. The scripture made us understand that there is a spirit that will come upon a man, a spirit that will teach him in all workmanship, a spirit that reveal hidden things unto him, a spirit that will bring to his remembrance all that he has been taught in class and all that he read too.
The spirit of God is more powerful than Google, it searches all things, even to the deepest and innermost part. Ask God to grant your child His spirit. The spirit of God brings wisdom knowledge and understanding.
2. Pray That The Presence of God be Upon your Child
Armed with enough information from our article on how to pray, we mentioned that when praying, we should pray with the word of God.
Be strong and steadfast! Do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord, your God, is with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9) Your first prayer should be that the presence of God should go with that child. When the presence of God goes with a man, protocols are broken, evil counsel does not stand, bad friends, do not come near such an individual. Remember the scripture in the book of Psalm 114 that talked about when Is real were leaving Egypt. The scripture says Isreal was the sanctuary and Judah was the Lord’s dwelling place. The subsequent verses talked about the Sea saw them and flees, how river Jordan was driven back. All of that was made possible because the presence of God Almighty went with the Israelites.
Of all our prayers as parents, we must endeavor to always seek that the presence of God Almighty goes with them.
3. Pray that the Protection of God be upon that Child
The scripture says no evil shall befall us nor come near our dwelling place. There is no doubt that the world is presently a hostile environment, with killings, implications, cultism and other vices happening every day. Many parents might even be scared to allow their children to go to school. A prayer of protection will go a long way. The eyes of the Lord is always upon the righteous and his ears are always attentive to their prayers. Pray that the protection of God Almighty is upon your child in that school.
