Today we will be dealing with Psalm 2 meaning verse by verse. We will highlight each verses of the this scripture and try as much as we can to do justice to them. One thing is sacrosanct about this scripture it is that God is powerful and He is the Almighty. When we surrender all to Him, we will prosper, but a soul that defy God will perish.
For easy understanding, let’s highlight each verses of the scripture for us to understand better.
Psalm 2:1-3 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
First it is important to note that nations can’t rise against God, rulers of the world can contend with His authority. The alliance of men against God will not stand. We can deduce from the story of Babel when me came together to build a tower. God mystically throw confusion into their midst. This is to emphasize the sovereignty of God Almighty.
The Kings of the earth take counsel together against the lord and his annointed. The devil understands the the gospel of Christ will cause terror for his kingdom, that’s why he will do anything to ensure the gospel doesn’t spread. They take counsel against God’s annointed. Their intention is to stop the gospel of Christ from spreading. But the Holy One of Isreal who sits in heaven laugh at the micro sense of men that wants to stop His work.
Let it be known to all that God is not threatened by the gathering of men against Him. He is the powerful and Almighty.
Psalm 2:4-6 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
Those that stand in the way of the lord shall be crushed. God will speak to them in wrath, they will feel the wrath of His anger and the danger of his fallen countenance. Whatever you will do, don’t try to stand against God or His people. The God whose fire is in Zion and furnace in Isreal.
Pharaoh stand in the way of the Lord, he refused to let the children go after God sent Moses to inform him that he should free the children of Isreal. The entire people of Egypt felt the heat of God’s wrath. God dealt severely with the children of Egypt. Whoever stands in the way of the lord will be crushed.
Meanwhile, God wants the entire nation to know that He has ordained his people and given them authority over everything. God has established His people. Little wonder the scripture says touch not my annointed and do my Prophet no harm. Do not lay a finger on the annointed one of God.
Have you wondered why David could not just kill Saul when he had the chance? 1 Samuel 24:10 “I will not lift my hand against my master, because he is the LORD’s anointed.”

7-9 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
This portion of the scripture emphasized that God is Almighty. God makes a decree, He declare and it comes to pass. God doesn’t need anyone’s consent to make things happen. In the book of Genesis chapter 1, God created heaven and earth.
Everything that was created by God was made with utterance. Let there be light and there was light. This shows that there is authority in God’s utterance. There is power in the words of the Lord. When He speaks, authority follows immediately.
Little wonder the scripture says in the book of Lamentations 3:37 Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, When the Lord has not commanded it?. This means it doesn’t matter what people say about you, what matters is what God is saying concerning you at that time. Whoever speaks when the lord has not spoken is a noisemaker, don’t dwell more on what people say about you, you should be much more concern about what God has to say about you.
10-12 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
This is a call to all men at the corridor of power, those who have been assigned by God to take leadership position. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth, serve the lord with fear and rejoice with trembling.
We must understand that whatever leadership position we hold, we are just and overseer and a representative of God in that position. We must ensure we rule with the fear of the Lord.
The last portion of the scripture says blessed are they that put their trust in the Lord. As stated in the book of Psalm 20 that some trust in chariots, some in horses but we put our trust in the Lord. They have bowed down and fallen; But we have risen and stand upright. The Lord will exalt those that put their trust in Him and He will humiliate people that put their trust in man.
The scripture says in the book of Daniel 11:32 Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits. Put your trust in the lord and you shall do great exploit.
