Today we will be dealing with how to pray Psalm 23 for direction.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Psalm 23 KJV

The Importance of “The Lord is My Shepherd”
A shepherd is one who watches over sheep, he takes care of them, guide them, feeds them, and help them grow too. Just like our Lord Jesus is referred to as our shepherd because He takes care of us and will never allow us to suffer. That’s why this particular verse says God is our shepherd that is He will watch over us and the next verse says we shall not want.
How can you lack when you have a Father that owns the world . It’s just for you to believe in Him and wait on His promises for you.
Importance of having a shepherd
- He tends to your needs
- He provides for you
- He is ever ready to listen to you
- He guides your path and won’t let you loose your way. In the parable of the lost sheep Jesus says: What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? – Luke 15:4 (ESV).
- A shepherd cares deeply not only for all his sheep as a whole but also for each and every single one.
Now if the Lord is our Shepherd, that makes us the sheep. Prone to wander. Entirely and always reliant on our Shepherd, whether we realize it or not.
But here’s what we need to understand: we can’t see God as Shepherd if we don’t see ourselves as sheep. When we open our eyes to how much we really need and rely on God for everything, the more we realize His provision in our lives. But if we live in the lie that we can do this on our own, we wander and drift away from our true source, looking for satisfaction in artificial places.
You have to put away your pride in other to have God by your side as your shepherd. You can’t keep going against His will and expect Him to be your Shepherd, although His always ready to listen to His sheep as long as you keep on calling Him.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake; this is a good way to say that He is ready to guide our paths, God has given us the scriptures to direct us and lead us through. That’s why the bible says the scripture has been given to us for directions and corrections. So when you need to pray for alignment with God you can use this verse to Converse with God to lead you through and it’s a way of saying lead me nit into temptation,guide my ways and help me to follow your righteous footsteps. God has given us eternal life ,He has saved our souls from the pit of hell, the bible says He came to take over the power sin has over His children. Our soul has been saved already it’s now left to us to follow the guidelines God has given us.

God’s protection over us should never be doubted by us . His words says even though we walk through the valley of death, even though we were poisoned,even though we step on scorpions and something that will harm us, it won’t harm us . We’ve been assured that our safety is guaranteed. No matter what comes our way, we shouldn’t loose faith or get scared easily because we should always know that If God is for us ,who can be against us.
Also the bible assured us that “no weapons formed against us shall prosper”, this verse is like giving us assurance that our safety is guaranteed in God. When we feel like we’re alone in this world, there’s a staff of God that He has stretched out for us to comfort us and guide us . As we go about our daily lives when fear tries to creep in our daily thoughts we should know that we have been promised comfort and peace by God . Let’s also remember that He is not a man that He should lie or a son of man that He should repent. We should learn to trust God no matter what comes our way.
Thou prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. The book of Isaiah says God has anointed me with oil of gladness to comfort those who mourn, to bring peace to the troubled, to preach joy to those who mourn, we’ve been anointed for good to bring good tidings to people around us and also to ourselves. God prepared a table for David even before his enemies, all the conspiracy of the enemies against David we’re all out to Shame. I pray that the conspiracy of the evil ones on your life shall be destroyed in Jesus name .Amen
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
This is the promise God has for us as His children that we are entitled to alot of heavenly gifts , just as Jesus said in my father’s house there are many mansions and His willing to house every one of us .
