Today we shall be studying psalm 150, meaning verse by verse. Psalm 150 is the 150th and final psalm of the Book of Psalms, generally known in English by its first verse, in the King James Version, “Praise ye the LORD”. Praise God in his sanctuary”. The Book of Psalms is the third section of the Hebrew Bible and a book of the Christian Old Testament. In Latin, it is known as “Laudate Dominum in sanctis eius”.This names nine types of musical instruments to be used in praise of God. While the exact translation of some of these instruments is unknown, some of the identified instruments are the shofar, lyre, harp, drum, organ, flute, cymbal, and trumpet. It is observed that all human faculties are used in producing music from these instruments: “The breath is employed in blowing the trumpet; the fingers are used in striking the strings of the psaltery and the harp; the whole hand is exerted in beating the timbrel; the feet move in the dance”.

A Call to Praise God with Musical Instruments, the psalmist urges the congregation to praise God with music and dancing, named nine types of musical instruments to be used in Praising God. This is more than call to every believer, it a mandate that God which every man needs to come into the understanding that God demands our fruit of appreciation in every minute, condition and position, thus, this is the will of God that we need to adhere to.

Psalm 150 meaning verse by Verse

Verse 1:  Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

This verse describes the what, where and how a man should do to God always, giving expression that man should not just do it, but where the demand so should be offered according to the psalmist. What we should do i.e. showing and proclaiming the goodness of God to mankind, because this has to be what heavenly host doing to God always, every believer must offer praise unto God in every situation. How the Praise should be offered unto God, as it is mentioned in the Psalm meaning, the praise and gratitude should be offering in his sanctuary which is our heart because our heart is the centerpieces and embodiment that connect the body, soul, and spirit,  the source of information that the physical and spiritual sense process during the interaction between this composition of man i.e. what man is made up, that why Jesus in his statement stated that those who will worship God must worship in truth and spirit, so, our heart is the highest realm of interaction between Man and God. How to give expression in this statement “praise him in the firmament of his power” meaning, praise in heaven, his strong and fortress, which implies that Thanksgiving should be offering through an understanding of the countless blessing of God that manifest in our lives.

Verse 2:  Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.

This describes the wondrous activity that manifests before, now and forever which gives the expression of God’s mighty, power, majesty and mighty, the faithfulness of God through all the ages,  even in daily life,  the design and manifestation of God glory in everything he has made, the continuous changes that happen every day.

Verse 3: Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.

This verse of the scripture calling our attention to the use of an instrument that produces sound to praise, enlightening and giving us the sense that every instrument that produces sounds has mysterious communication and honor they produce that can awakening spirit and reinforce every part of the body to praise God and also give the expression of miraculous dealings of God with mankind, it helps the believer to gives their whole beings to honor God beyond physical activity or actions.

Verse 4 and 5: Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.

This verse does not only explain the use instruments in praising God but deeply involved the use of gifts, God gave to every man which knowledge, understanding, wisdom with a lot of creativity which requires in operations of these instruments mention, though, the spiritual implication is best known to God, moreover, the physical implication can’t be neglected, the instrument’s revival man spirit in unfavorable state and dilemma, let alone God, who know why he gives man inspiration to design and invented these instruments, these musical instruments by the effort of cunning player, it has forced to makes man change the state of his heart consciously and unconsciously. Dancing involves dynamic and continuous movement of the body and with psychological engagement that can body under the control of the mind. If everything involved total engagement of body, soul, and spirit into praise God, it can help us to make God happy toward us.

Verse 6:  Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

The verse describes the whole meaning of this Psalm, the word: Let all souls [praise God]”, “Let every breath [praise God], it means for each breath a person takes, he must praise God, everything man does have to be a praise unto, God is not only expecting praise of our mouth, He demands out totality, which means, for everything we do and possess must be instruments and channel of praise unto God, every of our choice, decision, ability, intelligence, capabilities God want it to inform of praise and honor back to him, so, God has not created any man to lives for himself, but God and pleasing to God in all spheres. It not just a Psalm but a life we must live.

WHEN DO I NEED TO USE THIS PSALM?

Having established the meaning of this psalm, it is important to know when to use it. There are a few times where psalm can serve a purpose for you. Every day is most appropriate to use this psalm, and every time you feel God deserves your deep praise.

When are having a lot happen in your life and you do know what to do.

When you desire more of His presence in your quiet time

When you want to you don’t reason to praise, you just feel like singing praise to him
