Today we will be dealing prayer points for Humility.

Humility is the state of being humble, the quality of having a modest or low view about one’s importance. Humility means modesty, meekness, simplicity and quietness. The opposite of humility is pride which means the unreasonable overestimation of one’s self.

Humility is a very good trait that should be seen in every believer even though some lack it. The importance of humility can not be overemphasized. So many quarrels and choas in the society and home is as a result of impatience and lack of humility/meekness.

In our world today humility as been mistaken for foolishness, but they are two different things entirely. You are humble doesn’t mean you are foolish, but it is termed foolishness because you didn’t take the expected step you ought to take that is retaliate/fight back.

Our leader and mentor Jesus Christ was humble and lived all His days on earth in humility and respect to God and man. No where was recorded in the bible where He displayed pride or disrespect. Jesus set a standard and a legacy of humility in which He wants us to follow.

The devil who was once an angel in heaven was sent to the earth because of pride, he thought to be above God and instead he was lowered. No wonder a school of thought says ‘pride goes before a fall’. God cherish humility, the bible says in 1Peter 5:5, but He giveth greater grace, therefore it says, God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humility should not be a choice but rather a lifestyle. The bible admonishes us in 1Peter 5:6 ‘Therefore humble yourself under the mighty hands of God’.

The following verses lays more emphasis on why were should live w humble life.

Colossians 3:12

As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Ephesians 4:2

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

James 4:10

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Luke 14:11

For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Micah 6:8

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Proverbs 3:34

He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.

Benefits of being humble

You may be wondering in your heart if humility is just a good virtue and nothing more, I am glad to tell you that there are benefits attached to it.

Makes you live a healthy life

A life of humility is a life of simplicity, which saves you the stress of having to retaliate/fight back.

Being humble saves you from stress which can affect your emotional, mental or psychological health and can lead to sickness or death.

When you live a humble life, you are not after trying to show off your wealth or other resources which will save you from a lot of headache.

Humble living makes your mind at rest and makes you happy which is good for your health.

Makes you at peace with every one

Living a humble life makes you live a peaceful life.

Being humble involves over looking somethings and not negatively reacting to things around you that may lead to fight.

When you are humble, you are indirectly trying to maintain peace and harmony

Living at peace is one of the instructions from God, Heb 12:14 ‘follow peace with all men and holiness without which no man can see God’.

Makes you a tool of envangelism

Beyond the words of our mouth, our actions must/should portray that we are Christians.

The bible says ‘be an example of a believer in your words, thoughts, in charity. 1Tim 4:12

The disciples were first called believers in Antioch not because they were pronouncing it upon themselves, but because they acted like Christ and this was evident through their actions. Acts 11:26. Meekness as part of the fruits of the spirit can be compared to humility, which is what Christ wants us to exhibit to draw more people to His kingdom.

Nowadays, believers are the bible people study, they want to see how you behave and react to things, your life style generally passes a negative or positive message to people. A soul can be won through your simple act of humility. Live humble always!

Makes you loved and respected

This is true because nobody likes a proud person because they are so full of themselves. Jesus won the heart of many through his humility. It was even hard for people to identify him among his apostles due to his humble nature.

Humility commands respect.

Prayer points 

• Father, I thank you for this exposition, for I know knowledge is light, be thou exalted in Jesus name.
• Help me to live a humble life, the kind of lifestyle you lived on earth.
• You washed the disciples feet (John 13:1-17) this explains your height of humility.
• Father let humility find expression in me.
• Help me to be selfless in the mighty name of Jesus
• Wipe every iota of pride in my life with your precious blood.
• Help me to direct every praise/accolades I receive back to you.
• When I’m at the peak of my pursuit/career help me to acknowledge you in Jesus name.
• James 1:17, ‘every good and perfect gift is from above and comes down from the giver of light’ 
• I come against every spirit of pride in my life, I destroy it by fire in the name of Jesus. 
• Father help me to realize that you are the giver of all good and perfect gift.
• I will not think too highly of myself in Jesus name.
• Hold my hands and teach me how to live by yourself Lord Jesus.
• Help me to know when to react and when not to react in Jesus name.
• Thank you Lord Jesus for answered prayer, in Jesus name I pray. Amen
