Lesson To Learn From Psalm 150

Today we will be teaching the lesson to learn from Psalm 150. Among the numerous book of Psalms in the scripture, Psalm 150 specifically taught more on the efficacy of praising God and why we should praise God. King David is regarded as a man after God’s heart because he understood the efficacy of praises and how to use it well. Little wonder, God was always swift to pardon David everytime he slip away from the presence of God.

The first time God will attest to the type of relationship that exist between and a mortal was during the time of Abraham. Isaiah 41:8
“ But you, Israel, are My servant,
Jacob whom I have chosen,
The descendants of Abraham My friend. Abraham’s faith in the lord earn him the title friend of God. And God stated that I will not do anything without telling my friend Abraham. The next person that got a perfect relationship with God was King David. One of the reasons why God named David a man after His heart is because of his unrelenting praises to God.

God cherish the praises of man. We have been taught on the importance of praises God. However, only few know reasons it is important to praise God. The book of Psalm 150 strategically explain why we must praise God.

Psalm 150 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness! Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!

Let’s highlight why we should praise God as the great lesson we can pick from Psalm 150.

Why We Should Praise God

We Praise God Because of Who He Is

God is the Almighty. Nothing scares the Lord, He can’t be intimidated by any man. He is God. The scripture made understand God created the heavens and the earth and He made the earth His footstool. This means God is the greatest. He is the most powerful, the all powerful God.

Also, the fact that He created us in His image makes it pertinent that we praise. Come let us make man in our image that he may have dominion over the earth and everything that has been created. The purpose of our existence is to have dominion over everything that has been created. If God have put us in that position to oversee everything that has been created, the least we can do is to praise His majesty and awesomeness.

So one of the reasons we praise God is because of who he is. He is the God of gods, the Kings of all Kings. The ruler of the world. The respect and allegiance we pay to rulers of the world is not nothing compared to what we ought to give to God.

We Praise God For Where He Lives

The book of Psalm 150 explain why we should praise God stylishly. The second verse of the scripture states that Praise God in His sanctuary. God lives in the sanctuary. The sanctuary here doesn’t mean a physical building where we go to worship. This is not to dispute the fact that the presence of God dwell in the sanctuary. However, God dwells in other places beyond the physical sanctuary.

The scripture says our body is the temple of the Lord. The temple here also means sanctuary. God dwells in the sanctuary and the Psalm states that we should praise God in His sanctuary. He dwells among the presence of His people. This means we don’t need to get to the church or physical sanctuary before we communicate with God. Even from the comfort of our homes we can extend our profound Worship to God.

We Praise God Because He Has Made Us An Instrument of Worship

Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord! As explained earlier, the essence of our creation is to serve God, to worship Him. God wanted more than a friendship from us, God demand a koinonia from us, that’s why He made us an instrument of worship.

This is where the life of King David played an integral parts. David was a musician who knows how to praise God well. When David is praising nothing else matters. He would literally forget his identity and praise God like a commoner. When the ark of covenant was brought back to Isreal, David danced to the lord. His wife despised him in her heart and she regret it badly.

The core essence of our existence is to praise God.

We Praise To Build Intimacy With God

Our praises and worship to God help build a sustainable relationship with God. While Abraham earned a perfect spot in the heart of God by his act of faith, David earned a spot in the heart of God through by his act of praise.

When we praise God, we build a sustainable relationship with God. Praises move God and causes us to be recognised when we call on Him.

Psalm 150 teaches us the essence of praising God. We are an instrument of worship and we must endeavor to always praise God. God alone is God and only Him deserve our praise and worship.

We should praise God in the beauty of His holiness.
