Today we will be teaching ourselves five ways to prepare for the coming of Christ. While we can’t know the exact time Christ will return, the best we can do is prepare for his second coming. The teachings of Christ revealed that he would be coming as a king, and like a thief in the night, he will creep in without formal announcement. This has been the hope of believers all over the globe for ages. We believe that sorrow, pain, and death will be taken away upon the return of Christ Jesus.
While waiting for the coming of Christ, we can prepare ourselves not to miss out on this glorious day. The story of the ten virgins should be a motivation for us as believers. While they waited for the groom to come, the ten virgins had their oil lamp filled with oil. However, when the groom tarry incoming, they went out of oil. Five virgins came with extra oil to fuel their lamp, while five others didn’t come with extra oil. They had to travel far to get the oil. The unfortunate thing was that while they were away, the groom returned, took the five virgins that had extra oil, and went into the hall.

Immediately he entered, the door was locked, and the event started. When the other five virgins returned, they were denied access into the hall. While you may sense a bit of unfairness in the story, it teaches us to be more prepared for the coming of Christ. Nothing must take us by surprise. It is not enough that we prepare well from the beginning but fail at the slightest hour that Christ is returning. Little wonder the scripture says in the book of 1 Corinthians 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands to take heed lest he falls. For us not to fall, here are five things we can do to prepare for the coming of Christ:
1. Dominate For Christ
Jesus, while teaching about the Kingdom of heaven, liken it to the story of a man of noble birth who went into a strange land to take the kingdom and return. He called his ten servants and gave them mina saying dominate till I come. This can be found in the book of Luke 19:11-27. Some of the servants were productive with the mina they were given; while one did nothing with his own, he simply hid it into cloth.
This was a parable of our life as believers explained by Christ Jesus. Christ is away, but we are his front runners here on earth. We are expected to dominate until He returns the second time. There is a deposition of gift and talent in us by God. We are meant to use these gifts to win more souls for Christ. While we are all waiting for Christ to return, the father’s business must not be left undone.
2. Be Prepared All The Time
Mark 13:32 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
You have to accept the uncertainty about the time He will come. Start living each day like it is the day Christ is coming. The story of the wise and foolish virgin should be a motivation. Christ can come anytime. Let this be in your heart always. And what if He comes today? Will I be able to reign with Him? This should always put you in the consciousness of doing what’s right before God.
Do not let down your guard. The devil is on a rampage to destroy believers. The earlier you start living in your life like it’s the day Christ will return, the better.
3. Remember The Promise of Heaven
How beautiful would it be for us to reign with Him in paradise? Have a better understanding of heaven. If the world is as terrible as it is and there is no hope of heaven, the fate of believers has been put to shame. Thanks to the father of heaven that gave us Christ Jesus for life eternal.
The promise of heaven should always be in your mind. How beautiful it will be for us all to reign with him on that glorious day. With the angels singing hallelujah and hossana to the holy one of Isreal. Indeed, it will be a beautiful sight to behold.
4. Improve on Your Christian Life
There are so many hypocrites among believers. They lift holy hands in public, but in the closet, they are filled with evil. God is not expecting perfection from us. Ephesians 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. There is always a place for improvement as believers.
God is not expecting perfection from you, and he only wants you to grow in Him daily. The complexity of God is such that it can not be contained. However, you can always become a better believer. The secret place must be prioritized. The fire upon the altar of the secret place must be preserved.
5. Encourage other people
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
It is not good enough that you are all prepared, and another person is still languishing in sin. We owe ourselves a duty of care. The five virgins would not have missed the groom’s coming if the other five encouraged them by helping them with oil for their lamp. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
The gospel of Christ must be preached even to the Bitterroot valley of the pagans and the unsaved. A scholar once argued that the present-day believers are the reason Christ has not come yet. The present-day believers have left the place of evangelism. Self-righteousness has become the order of the day.
