Politics is widely regarded as a dirty game. Hence, it is seen as a game played by the ungodly. So many churches and religious leaders have preached against Christians joining politics. There is a belief that politics is a stain. It leaves a dent in whatever it touches and everything that touches it. That’s why Christians are advised to stay away from politics.
There is an atom of truth in this claim. After all, the book of 1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from every form of evil. However, what do we say about what the scripture said in the book of Luke 19:13 So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’ The scripture commanded us to be in charge until Christ returns. How do we effectively take charge of every situation in our country if we all abstain from politics because we fear that it is a great evil?

This begs the question, is it right for a Christian to indulge in politics? If politics is evil and we flee from it. But yet those who will rule the country have to indulge in politics, that means we are leaving the affairs of our country to be governed by the unholy? This explains why it is right for any Christian to indulge in politics. For the avoidance of doubt, we will highlight and explain 5 reasons why Christians should indulge in politics.
5 Reasons Why Christians Must Indulge In Politics
We Are Responsible For The State of The Nation
While we abstain from politics, we leave the affairs of our nation to the hands of those who call unholy. Then, we should not cry or complain about the desolated situation the country is presently in, we should not lament about the catastrophe that has attacked the nation. After all, the scripture stated in the book of Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
When the wicked are in authority the people will groan. That means whatever devastating situation our country finds itself in, we are responsible for it. When we feel we are too holy or righteous to be involved in politics, we are always being punished by being filed or governed by those who are very unholy and unrighteous.
Because Jesus Commanded That We Dominate Till He Returns
Luke 19:13 So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’
Another reason why every true Christian must be actively involved in politics is because Jesus instructed that we should occupy till he returns. Jesus wants us to be in charge of the world until His second return. He wants us to be at the helm of affairs, we should be the ruler of the world. This is because the fate of the country is safer with us as Christians than when it is in the hands of an unbeliever.
If we are to occupy till the second coming of Christ, we must be actively involved in politics. Else, we will be ruled by those who do not even know God. And this would negate the original command of Christ Jesus. We are not meant to be ruled, we are supposed to rule. We are not created to be governed, the governance of the nation is supposed to be our responsibility. However, this would not happen if we abstain completely from politics.
Because We Are Suppose To Sanitise The Political System
When there is decadence in the political system, the entire system needs to be saturated. If we are to sanitize the political system, we must be fully involved. We can’t possibly fight the decadence from the outside. When we are part of the system, it is easier to make positive changes.
However, when we preach total abstinence from politics, we leave it to the hands of the wrong people and this will further cause the level of decadence to go deeper. How can the righteous be in a country and decision-making process will be the sole duty of the unrighteous? When God doesn’t have men in the position of power it is hard for the spirit of God to operate. Little wonder there are so much chaos, despair, and senseless destruction of people all around the world today because the devil has more representative in the seat of power.
Because The Country Needs Men To Intercede
Our intercession for the country becomes more effective when we are part of the government. When we are outside the government, it is hard for us to penetrate the position of authority because it will always feel like we praying against the government. However, when we are part of the government, intercession becomes much easier.
When there are men to pray, there is a God whose business is to answer prayers. The country needs men and women in positions of power who will intercede on her behalf. One of our sole duties as Christians is intercession. This is one of the reasons why we must be actively involved in politics. Being part of the government gives more credence and power to our intercession.
Because We Attract The Glory of God
As true believers, we are carriers of his presence. We are an embodiment of His glory. If God can find expression through few persons in government, it makes it easier for the glory of God to be eminent in the country. How can there be numerous children of light in a country and yet darkness will prevail?
How can a nation be filled with children of glory and yet the glory of the nation will go dim? This happens because men don’t know their place. The moment we stand and take our rightful place, things will fall back to normal. When we are part of the government, we attract the glory of God upon the nation and things will fall in place without struggle.
