Today we will be dealing with Opening Prayer Points For Night Vigil. Night vigil is a spiritual tradition of sacrificing night sleep to have a quality time in the presence of God. Among the times of the day, midnight is the most dangerous time. Because at this time, humans are vulnerable. The scripture said in the book of Matthew 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. When men slept, the enemy strikes. That’s why as Christian soldiers we must be at alert all the time.

Night vigil is an opportunity to seek the face of God. It is a time to counter evil attack launch against us and it is a time to attack the attacker. Not all night is meant for deep sleep. Some nights should be dedicated to praying. Seek God’s face about a certain thing. The glorious manifestation we see and celebrate during the day was established in the midnight when men slept.

Reasons Why Night Vigil is Important

Here are some reasons why night vigil is highly important in our lives as Christians.

We Are Watchmen

Habakkuk 2:1 I will stand on my guard post. And station myself on the rampart; And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me, And how I may reply when I am reproved.

Christians are watchmen. We are soldiers. We are prophets. We are priests. We are the mouthpiece of God to the people. So as a watchman, we are not expected to be sleeping on duty. When a watchman sleeps, the lives and properties of the people is at great risk. Our adversary the devil roams about like a wounded lion looking for whom to devour.

Prayer Is More Effective

The spiritual frequency is unwavering in the midnight. We are closer to the heaven at this time because most people are sleeping. The serenity we enjoy at night is top notch. At this time we are able to concentrate better and channel our energy into talking with God. It is a counter every evil attack the enemy has launched against us.

The midnight is a perfect time to design our day. We can talk to God, tell him our complains and worry and fear.

Thanksgiving prayers

You can read psalms of thanksgiving from the Bible such as Psalm 8, Psalm 150. You can thank God for all His kindness and blessings. Thank God for His mercies over your life and family.

Sing songs of thanksgiving to charge up the people you are praying together, tell them to think of the mercies of the Lord and all He has done for them.

Prayer of Admonishment 

Acts chapter 16:25 to 27 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.  Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chains came loose. The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. You can read this Bible verse to charge up the praying environment and make everyone think of all the beautiful things God has done for them so far. Pray that as Paul and Silas were answered, the Lord should answer your prayers too.

Prayer for Forgiveness

the Bible says for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, pray a prayer of forgiveness, ask everyone to talk to God since, individually, we are know what we do in our secret place and the Bible says no man deep in sun shall see God. Ask all to pray a prayer of forgiveness. Just as the Lord prayers says “and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”. Pray to God to help everyone not to be led astray and to be spiritually minded that they will be able to stand firm against the agenda of the devil. Pray to God for forgives of sins you committed intentional and unintentionally. God is a good God good and He said in His word that if we will humble ourselves and ask God for forgiveness, He will look upon us with mercy and forgives us of our trespasses.

Pray for the presence of the Holy Spirit

You need the directions of the Holy Spirit to be able to have a successful prayer session. Ask the Holy Spirit for help. We know not what to say except the Holy Spirit help us with our utterances, ask everyone for the presence of the Holy Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit to take charge of the environment and direct and lead you on what to say and ask for so that you won’t pray wrongly.
Ask for the mighty hand of the Holy Spirit to saturate the environment and chase away every evil spirit that is not of God and that might want to serve as hindrances to your prayers.

Ask for the visible presence and manifestations of the Holy Spirit so that the essence of the vigil can be achieved and people will go home fulfilled and satisfied
