How To Trust God When Things Are Not Going Well

Today we will be dealing with how to trust God when things are not going well. There is a time in our lives when things don’t go according to plan. We strive hard to make things better but all effort proved abortive. Meanwhile, there are promises and covenants of God concerning our life. It is hard to trust and follow God when things are not going well with us. It is even harder to have faith in God when the promises of God for our lives negate the present predicament we are going through.

Let’s take the life of Abraham as a case study. God told Abraham to walk before him and be perfect and He will establish His covenant with Him. Genesis 17:1 – 4 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying: As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.

Even after God has promised to make Abraham the father of many nations, The scripture recorded that Abraham was still barren. Despite having a covenant and promise of fruitfulness, Abraham had barrenness to contend with his wife Sarah. This type of case can test the faith of any man. There are moments in our life when things won’t go well. Whereas, God promises that we shall be prosperous, great, and excel. However, failure has become the order of the day, backwardness and stagnation have become our greatest enemy. How do we maintain our faith in this case, how do we keep trusting God and not weaver when all odds are standing against us?

We will highlight some of the things that can help us to keep trusting God when things are not going well with us.

Know God Well

The truth is, it is very difficult to trust God when things are not going well. This is a fact and let no one tell you otherwise. As a child, if a distant uncle promise you a gift for Christmas but in the end, you didn’t get the gift, you know how you would react like a child. The first thing that would happen is a reduction in the level of trust you have for that uncle.

However, if that uncle is not a distant one. If he’s someone you know well enough to be a man of principle, an uncle that doesn’t go back on his words, even without getting the Christmas gift on time you would still trust him and be expectant. This is the same thing that happens when you know God dearly. The level of relationship that we have with God will determine how much trust we have for Him.

We don’t have a problem with our trust and faith in God when everything is going on fine. Failure and disappointment are used to test out faith in God. But our level of relationship with God will determine how much we trust Him. When God promised Abraham and he didn’t get it, his faith in God didn’t weaver, this is because he had a consistent solid relationship with God. At some point, God regarded Abraham as His friend. Genesis 18:17 And the LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing.

When we grow our relationship with God, we learn to trust Him even when things are not working according to plan. Even when it seems like his promises are failing, we will still trust Him.

Study His Word

While knowing him may seem like the best way to trust him even when things are failing, studying His word is potent in helping us not to lose our faith in Him. One of the best ways we can get to know God better is through His word. The scripture houses the word of God. It is like the profile of God that tells us everything about God.

Habakkuk 2:3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, But at the end, it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.

The vision is for an appointed time. Though it may tarry or delay it will surely come to pass. This is one of the words of God we should. This lets us know that the promises of God will not go unfulfilled neither shall His covenant be futile unless it has been established. Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Though heaven and earth will pass away His words will not go unless it has fulfilled the purpose for which it was sent. These are the words of God. Studying these words will give us the confidence we need to keep trusting God even when things are not going well.

Acknowledge Him As God

The ways of God are different from the ways of men. The plan of God is different from the plan of men. Isaiah 55:9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Another way to keep trusting God even when things are not going well is by acknowledging that He is God and because He is God, His ways are different. God works with the heavenly time and season. That’s why the book of Isaiah 60:22 A little one shall become a thousand, And a small one a strong nation. I, the LORD, will hasten it in its time.”

There are blessings and success that we as humans feel are the best for us at that time. But in the face of God, He would want us to wait a little longer to get them. And when the time is right, the lord will make it happen. Not every time is right for blessing and not every blessing is right all the time. As humans, we might not be able to tell when the time is right, but God can. When the time is right He will make it happen.

Conclusion

We must learn to exercise patience when waiting on God. When things are not going well we must learn to keep trusting God and never lose our faith in Him. When the time is right God will make it happen.
