Today we will dealing with prayer points for the spirit of forgiveness. Unforgiven spirit is one thing that has hindered most people from finding mercy, favour and grace in the sight of God. The Lord’s prayer emphasize on the need to forgive other people. Forgive this day as we forgive those that trespass against us this means, as much as we offend God and he forgive us, we must also learn to forgive others.
In the book of Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. The scripture admonish us to be kind to one another, forgive another as God has forgiven us. There are pains and reproach that we must learn to let go. Recall the story of the prodigal son that was forgiven by his father.

The prodigal had taken all his birth right from his father in an unripe time and walk away into a distant land to enjoy his wealth. Although the father was not happy to let him leave, however, he could not stop him either. The prodigal son spent everything that was given to him by his father and he came broke. It was not long before he became destitute in a strange land. One day, he got tired of the whole situation and decided to return to his father to beg him for forgiveness and allow him work as one of his service.
Surprisingly, his father took him in with celebration. This parable explains our life before God and how God has continued to forgive us all our sins. God expects that we forgive on another too. There are some people who find it very difficult to forgive completely. No matter how hard they try, they can’t just let go completely. You must understand that Christ wants us to be exactly like him in all our dealings. One of the fruit of the spirit is Forgiveness. When we the power of the holy ghost in our lives, it becomes very easy for us to forgive other people when they offend us.
Why Must You Forgive
We must forgive for the following reasons
For our happiness
If you have ever been angry, you will understand that unhappiness comes whenever you see that person that has offended you. This means the presence of that person would determine if you will angry or happy. But when you let go and forgive completely, the pain, anger and resentment goes away and your happiness will be restored.
Esau knew no happiness until the day he forgave Jacob. For everytime Esau remember Jacob, he was always filled with anger and rage. But he began to experience a new dimension of happiness and joy the day he forgave Jacob.
Forgiveness let you forget painful past
To move forward in life quickly, we must have a forgiving spirit. When you hold on to the pain and anger, you will continue to live in the past. Until the day you decide to let go, it unlocks the stage for you immediately.
Do not let unforgiveness lock you up in the prison of the past. The scripture says do not remember the things of the old for everything has been made new. You will not experience newness until you learn to forgive.
For God to forgive us our sins too
The easiest way to earn God’s forgiveness is by forgiving others. The scripture in the book of Matthew 6:14-15 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. God cherish the heart that forgive others. There is a level of spiritual maturity that we must get to before can understand how to forgive people of their sin.
Forgiveness heals our wound
You get hurt when someone offend you. Meanwhile, retribution will not cure the pain that you go through. You will discover that even when you take revenge on that person that has offended you, it still doesn’t cure the pain.
However, the pain can be cured by forgiving that person. When you forgive people, you free yourself from the shackles of pain and slavery that anger has kept you and once more you become a free man.
Prayer Points
- Lord Jesus, I exalt you for the gift of life that you have given to me to witness this day. I thank you because you have been the protector of my Goshen and it is by your mercy that I’m not consumed. Lord, let your name be exalted in the name of Jesus.
- Lord Jesus, I pray for the spirit of Forgiveness. I ask that you will bless me with the spirit of forgiveness in the name of Jesus. Lord, I don’t want to be destroyed by the pain, anger and resentment, I want to be freed by forgiving other people. Lord, please grant me the spirit of forgiveness in the name of Jesus.
- Lord Jesus, I pray that you will unlock all the blessings that unforgiveness has denied me from, I pray that you will release them to me today in the name of Jesus.
- Lord, I pray for the spirit of obedience to your word that says we should forgive others just as God has forgiven us all our sins. Father Lord, I pray for spiritual maturity to attain this stage in the name of Jesus.
- Father Lord, I come against every spirit of stubbornness. Every satanic spirit of captivity that wants to keep me in bondage through the unforgiven spirit, I destroy it by the fire of the holy ghost.
- Lord Jesus, I pray for deliverance from the power of captivity. Every for of slavery that I have been thrown into by the spirit of unforgiveness, I break them today in the name of Jesus.
- Lord from now, I receive grace to forgive and forget. I receive grace to begin to operate in a greater dimension in the name of Jesus. The grace not to harbour pain, anger or resentment, I pray you give it to me in the name of Jesus.
