Today, we will be dealing with how to pray Psalm 91 for protection of your family. Psalm 91 is very important for the christians because it’s majorly referred to as a Psalm of Protection. When going out we see ourselves reading this particular verse of the bible some of us even go as far as reciting by heart, we are so used to reading it that we know everything in the chapter word for word.
We will be talking about the significance of psalm 91 in our daily lives and that of our families.
Significance of Psalm 91
We will notice that it give us peace and confidence after reading it, especially when we’re in doubt and in a confused State if mind.
When we’re in trouble it gives us a sense of safety that God is with us , do we remember that even when the devil was going to tempt Jesus he made mention of the psalm 91 which is to tell you that even the devil understand the scripture,that’s funny right ?
It calms our mind when we need protection, if the devil understand the scripture how much more “we” the children of God, that’s why the bible says at the mention of the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, the devil shall bow and every knee must confess that Jesus Christ is the lord
Now let’s go into how to pray with Psalm 91
A Psalm of Protection
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
The words dwell, rest, refuge, and fortress are words that mean we are to abide in the Lord. Its assuring us that we have a house built on a solid rock where come rain and sunshine, it won’t be shaken, and we have been given the authority to abide, to stay in the abode of the Lord,isn’t that great?.
The word abide means to remain, to not depart, to continue, to dwell, to endure, and to be present. When we rest, abide, and take refuge in God’s fortress and shelter, we are protected from the snares of the enemy. How can anyone fall into the “fowler’s snare” if they are rested safely in the dwelling place of the Lord? The bible says “The name of the Lord is a strong tower the righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10”
The Lord said he will deliver us from the snare and stronghold of the devil,that is no matter what were facing it’s not too hard for God to deliver us. Truly God didn’t promise us that we won’t fall sick or struggle because we are living in a fallen world already so while we await the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ where we will be totally free from all the problem of this world, let’s have patience and dwell in the Lord’s abode.
He promised to cover us with His feathers and go as far as promising that he won’t allow us to hit our legs against a stone , when we’re in doubt, we can use this vers to pray because the promises of the Lord never fails. The bible says God is not a man that He should lie nor a son of man that he should repent. So let’s trust in the process always. The bible says in all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ who love us. He started loving us even before we knew he exist, He’s love for us has always be unending, and it never fails. Remember how hard Saul tried to hurt David ,God still give him the power to overcome David, everything Saul planned for David was cancelled by God. There are many other examples like that in the bible to ,do we remember the story of Joseph, Daniel, Job, etc all God wants is for you to trust him and obey him and the follow His order.
The latter part of psalm 91 said something ;9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
The clause here is to make the Lord your refuge, do not disobey God. If He says go that is when you should go, imagine because you know God’s protection is over you and you start misbehaving and going out of God’s plan for you. You need to be careful. For example remember Daniel in the bible he was protected by God because he was thrown into the lion’s den against his will, check this scenario, a pastor wanted to claim he was really called by God to his church members, he told his members to lock him up in a lion’s den, guess what happened, he was eaten to the last bone by the lions. He went out of God’s will. He disobeyed God. He didn’t stay in the abode of God, he left the fortress that God provided for him. Let’s not emulate this pastor.
Finally this verse says when will call upon God he will hear our prayers and even made promises that even when we step on dangerous things, they won’t harm us just like the lion’s couldn’t hurt Daniel. God’s protection is readily available for us so let’s keep this verse in mind and be rest assured that all is well with us as a child of God
