Today we will be dealing with Intercessory Prayers for Family. A family is a group of people related by blood, marriage or by adoption. As we have our physical family, so also do we have our spiritual family. We have been adopted into the spiritual family of Christ Jesus through his blood that was shed on the cross of Calvary. Both our physical and spiritual families have their roles and duties and none of them must fail in it. 

There is a constant need to foster unity and love in the family and that’s why intercession is needed. Through Intercessory prayers for family, we can stand in gap for our respective families, pray for grace and protection of God over everyone. Abraham interceded for his family when the angels of the revealed to him that they were heading to the land of Sodom and Gomorrah to destroy it. Abraham’s cousin, Lot and his family were residing in the land and Abraham didn’t want them to be destroyed. So he pleaded on behalf of the city because of his family that resides in the city. 

Similarly, we can intercede for our families from wherever we reside. The scripture said in the book of James 5:16 The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. For you to better understand why you should intercede for your family, let’s quickly highlight some of the importance of Intercessory prayers for family. 

Importance of Intercessory Prayers For Family

Perhaps you don’t know why Intercessory prayers for family are crucial, here are some reasons why you must do it often.

It Enhance Love 

Intercessory prayers have a way of enhancing the love that exists among members of the family. The scripture said can two walk together unless they agree? Likewise we can not intercede or pray for one another unless we love one another. When we pray for another, we do it out of love. Abraham loved Lot, that’s why he prayed that the angel do not destroy the entire city but spare his family.

Intercessory prayers for family help to foster love and unity in the family. It eradicated hatred and unforgiven spirit among family members.

It Boost Unity

The essence of unity in a family can’t be overemphasized. A family that is United can stand against any vices of the enemy. The devil often puts an asunder to reduce the strength of the family. This is also evidently displayed in our lives as Christians. The scripture said in the book of John 10:16 I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd. The Christian body is supposed to be one flock with one shepherd. Now we have different denominations who do not even agree with one another. That’s why it is easy for the enemy to attack one of the Christian faiths.

But when we stand together in unity it becomes difficult for the enemy to strike. We stand together by interceding for one another.

Examples of Intercessory Prayers In The Scripture

1. Abraham – Genesis 18:16-33, he intercedes on behalf Lot and his family when the angels of the Lord were going to the city of Sodom and Gomorrah to destroy it. And in the end, Lot and his family were spared except his wife who disobeyed the divine instructions that was given to them.
2. Moses – Moses prayed for the children of Israel on several occasions. Despite the numerous signs and wonders that God showed the children of Israel, they often turn against God at every slight provocation. Moses often intercedes on their behalf so they will not be destroyed.
   

Intercessory Prayers For Family

• Father Lord, I come before you today over my family, I pray that your strength come upon my family. I pray that your grace come upon every member of my family. 
• Father, I pray for your protection over every member of my family. I ask that your hands be upon every one in the name of Jesus Christ. I pray that you cloth us with your garment of grace in the name of Jesus Christ.
• I pray for healing upon every member of my family who is sick. The scripture said he sent forth his word and healed their diseases. I pray that you shall send forth your word of healing and deliverance to heal every member of my family who is sick in the name of Jesus Christ.
  
• Father, I pray for the cord of unity in my family it shall not be cut off in the name of Jesus Christ. I pray for the strength of unity among every member of my family. I come against every form of misunderstanding and unforgiven spirit among members of my family in the name of Jesus Christ.
  
• Father, I pray for the Christian family in Nigeria and the world at large, the demon of disunity shall not find way into the fold in the name of Jesus Christ. Every arrow of disunity that has been shut into the Christian fold is removed in the name of Jesus Christ.
  
• I pray for every believer reading this post right now, the enemy shall not gain your soul in the name of Jesus Christ. Till Jesus returns or calls you home, the grace to keep standing in the love of Christ is released upon you in the name of Jesus Christ.
• I come against every arrow of death in the life of any family member. I command such arrow to come out this moment in the name of Jesus Christ.
  
• I decree provision for every man and woman who is associated to the house of faith through Christ Jesus. I decree that your need shall be met in the name of Jesus Christ.
