Today we will be dealing with why praying the Lord’s prayer is an effective way to pray. In the gospel of Mathew chapter 6, Jesus gave us a perfect way of praying. Before then, it was clear that the people don’t know the perfect way to pray, they don’t know the pattern of prayer.

So Jesus spoke to them in the subsequent verses of Mathew chapter 6 Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive this who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from all evil. For thy is kingdom, power and glory Forever. Amen.

Most believers don’t even bother to say this prayer anymore. Many do not believe their problems can be solved by merely saying the Lord’s prayer. Remember it was Christ that taught people how to pray this prayer. For you to understand the effectiveness of this prayer, let’s quickly highlight some section of the prayer.

It Recognize God As The All Powerful

Hallowed Be Thy Name

Hallowed mean honor. When we pray our conventional style of prayer, the first we do is honor God by giving thanks. In the book of Philliapians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; the scripture admonish that we should be worry for nothing, but we should make our intentions known to God through Thanksgiving and prayer.

Also when we pray, it is important to recognize the sovereignty of God. We must acknowledge the fact that we are nothing without God. Recognizing that God is the all powerful puts God in the position of God in our life. We must acknowledge the fact that God is all powerful. This is what Hallowed be thy name means.

It Makes Our Request Known

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread

This is the part of the prayer we pay less attention to. Most times, the major reason why most believers pray is to ask God for something. It’s either we want God’s blessing or provision. This is a prayer of provision for our need. It would interest you to know that our daily bread is not restricted to food alone, it is also about blessings and protection of God Almighty. It refers to everything we need to accomplish our goals for each days.

So when we say give us this day our daily bread, it doesn’t mean food alone. Everything you need for the day to be a success is what we pray for.

It Begs For Forgiveness

Forgive us our Sins as we forgive those that sin against us

The scripture says, shall we continue to be in sin and demand that grace to abound? The face of the Lord is too righteous to behold sin.

Similarly, remember the scripture said it is not that the eyes of the Lord is blind or his hands are too short to save us, but it is our sin that has created disparity between us and God. When we dwell in sin, the presence of God goes farther from us.

That is why the Lord’s prayer seek for the forgiveness of sin and also taught us how to forgive other people when they sin against us. So, that means while we beg God for the forgiveness of our sin, it is imperative that we forgive other people who have sinned against us as well.

It Seems Guidance Against Evil Temptations

Lead us not into temptation

One of the greatest challenges that believers faces in the hands of the devil is temptation. The enemy can use almost anything to tempt a believer. Remember the story of Job.  God allowed Job to be tempted by the devil. He lost everything he has worked for in life within the blink of an eye.

As if that was not enough, Job was struck with terrible illness. All these happened because God allowed Job to be tempted. In order for us not to suffer the same fate or something more worse, the prayer asked that God lead us not into temptation.

It Seeks Protection From Evil

But deliver us from evil

The book of Ephesians 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. This bible passage is teaching to redeem each day with the precious blood of Christ because everyday is filled with evil. Interestingly, the Lord’s prayer already covered that aspect by praying that God should deliver us from all evil.

Evil things happen each day. The scripture says our adversary is like a roaring lion, going about looking for whom to devour. So that’s why it is important that we seek the protection of God daily.

The Prayer Recognizes The Fact That The Kingdom of God is Eternal

For Thine is the kingdom, power and glory, forever. Amen

After everything, the Lord’s prayer recognized the fact that the kingdom of is eternal and it span us into eternity. In everything we do in life as believers, we must not lose the consciousness that the Kingdom of God is coming soon and it is for eternal.

This will give us the consciousness that everything we do or own here on earth is for a while. Also, it is ignite us to make moves for our place in eternity.

Conclusion

Without much ado, we have seen that the Lord’s prayer encompasses our request in prayer. In fact, it does more than our conventional style of praying. This is not to say we should stop praying and cling to the Lord’s prayer alone. Remember the scripture says Wisdom is profitable to direct.

What we should do instead is include the Lord’s prayer in our daily prayer routine. We must pray the Lord’s prayer each day and strive to do what is right before God.
