Today we will be teaching why and how you can pray for someone who hurt you. This topic is one of the most under-discussed topics of Jesus command that we should pray for those that hurt us or cause us pain. Truthfully, it is not easy to forgive people that hurt you, let alone pray for them. Our usual pattern of prayer as believers is to pray for the death of our enemies. However, this quite negates the mandate Christ gave to us.
It is much easier for us to plan our revenge on those that hurt us than pray for them. Praying for them naturally keeps us glued to them and gives them more power to hurt us more. As much as you would love to take serious revenge on that person that hurt you badly, here are three reasons why you should pray them instead.

Why Should I Pray For Someone Who Hurt Me?
There are three basic reasons why you should pray for those that hurt you. First, because Jesus commanded it. Secondly, because love those that hurt you. Thirdly, because it brings peace to your mind.
Jesus Commanded It
Matthew 5:44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.
As stated earlier, praying for someone who has caused you great pain is not easy. But doing it because Christ has commanded should give you the strength you need. Our lives as Christians is no longer ours. We live Christ, we breathe Christ. Everything about us is Christ. This is more reason why we must always pray for those that hurt us instead of planning revenge.
Because God Loves Those That Hurt You
Ezekiel 33:11 Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’
These people you claim hurt you could have done it for a reason. First, the pain they cause you could be designed to prepare you to become who God wants you to become. Also, it could be because God wants their repentance that’s why he has allowed them to hurt you so you can pray for them.
They hurt you because they have not seen the light of the word. You owe them a duty of preaching the word to them so they can change. God loves sinners and He loves you too.
Praying For Those That Hurt You Brings Peace To Your Mind
Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God”
Have you ever tried forgiving someone that wronged you? Forgiveness eases the pain in the heart. If merely forgiving them can take away the pain of what they have done, now imagine you praying for them? It brings peace to the heart.
You have this unexplainable peace of mind when you pray for those that hurt you. Praying for them takes the burden and pain away from your heart completely. You no longer seek revenge but peace.
Having known why you should pray for those that hurt you, you must know how to pray for them.
How Can I Pray For Someone Who Hurt Me?
First, you must understand that it is not that person that has wronged you. Take it as though God wants you to learn and also teach the fellow who has hurt you. When you understand this, it is easier to forgive them for what they did.
When you have found a place in your heart to forgive them, you can say the following prayers for them.
Prayer Points
- Father Lord, I have come before you today. Your word said love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. I know it is very difficult to do because I’m just a man, but I pray Lord, grant me the grace to look beyond the pain they have caused me. I pray for the grace to seek peace instead of revenge, grant me this grace in the name of Jesus.
- Father, I pray for a change of heart for this person that has continued to cause me pain. I pray that you will create a new heart within him. I ask that you will take away the evil in his heart and you will grant him the grace to love everyone around him. Grant him the fortitude to obey your commandment of love. Teach him to love people and in all that he does, let him see you in the name of Jesus.
- Lord, I have been hurt. I would not believe this type of pain existed if someone had not made it happen to me. I’m broken from within. Lord, I pray that you will help me heal in the name of Jesus. I ask that you will take away the bitterness in my heart and grant me the heart to forgive. I believe this would not have happened unless you allowed it and I’m looking at the bright side. I assume that the enemy is the one using this person to hurt me. I pray for his deliverance in the hands of the devil, I pray that you will deliver him today in the name of Jesus.
- Father, the scripture said you take no delight in the death of sinners but repentance through Christ Jesus. I have inclined in my heart to preach the love of Christ to him instead of seeking revenge. I pray that you will grant him a heart of repentance. I pray for a contrite and a broken heart, I pray that you grant it to him in the name of Jesus.
- Lord, the scripture said the heart of man and kings are in the hands of the lord and he directs them like the flow of waters. I pray that you shall change the heart of this man. I pray that you shall take away the evil in his heart and you shall grant him a heart of love in the name of Jesus.
