Today we will be teaching ourselves on 7 reasons God wants us to pray. Prayer is the communication channel between man and God. When we pray to God, we also get to hear Him speak to us through prayers. However, often than not, most believers fall under the lazy habit of praying. Most believers find it very difficult to pray while others don’t have the ability to sustain themselves in the place of prayer.
The scripture says in the book of 1 Thessalonians 5:17 pray without ceasing. God wants us to pray continually without fainting or being weary. When we understand the reasons God wants us to pray, it will intensify our prayer life and make us a better believer.

Why God Wants Us To Pray
For Fellowship With Him
The whole essence of our existence or creation is for us to have fellowship with the Father. God wants to build a sustainable relationship with man, that was why He created man not in the image or likeness of an angel but of Himself.
God finds an expression through man, He sees Himself through and that is why He wants us to always draw nearer unto Him. Recall that in the book of Genesis when God created Adam, the scripture recorded that God will come down in the cool of the evening to have conversation with Adam. That fellowship is what God so much desire and that’s one of the cogent reasons we were created by God.
God Wants Us To Hear Him All The Time
The spirit of God speaks all the time. However, it takes a conscious efforts from us as believers to be able to align with the spirit of God. When we are in alignment with God through prayer, God will communicate with us all the time through the Holy Spirit.
The Holy spirit is the comforter, the Godly nature in the heart of men. It teaches us and guide us on things to come. We won’t be lost in the travails of life if only we communicate with God all the time. God wants a generation of believers that He can communicate with all the time.
God Wants To Make Us A Nation Of Priests
God wants to make us a priest in the order of Melchizedek. In the book of Exodus 16:6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.” This was when God wanted to free the children of Isreal from captivity. God want them to become a Kingdom of priests. People who have consecrated their lives for the things of God.
Similarly, our salvation and redemption from the power of sin through the blood of Christ was to make us become like Christ. Jesus Christ is a Priest. The Highest Priesthood that reigned on earth was Christ Jesus. When we pray to God often, we tend to intercede for other people even in our prayers. We become a nation of Priests.
To Move The Angels Of The Lord
When we pray consistently, it bothers God to move the angels to attend to our situation. Recall in the book of Daniel when Prophet Daniel was praying to God for a particular thing. God sent an angel to go give Daniel answers to his prayers. However, the prince of Persia held down the angel and Daniel didn’t receive his answers.
Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. Daniel didn’t stop praying until God sent another angel to free the one that was carrying Daniel answered prayers. When w pray consistently, God is touched to move the angels to work in our favour.
Prayer Serves As Our Shield and Buckler in Days of Trouble
Another reason why God wants us to pray consistently is because God understands that we tend to lose our ability to pray well when we are in trouble. However, the years of prayer that we have watered on the ground of our lives will begin to speak for us in the days of trouble.
Prayers becomes a shield and buckler that protect us in the hard days. Sometimes we can’t even understand how we were saved from trouble that claimed the lives of other people. It is the years of prayer that we have invested in the past that works in our present life.
God Wants To Remember His Covenant Over Us
You will be surprised that does it mean that God sometimes forget his covenant over a man? Well, God doesn’t forget his covenant over the life of a man. However, most times God wants a man to cry to Him for help.
Such was the case of the Isrealites. For years they wallow in toxic of slavery and it seemed help will not come for them. Whereas, God had a covenant with their fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Unfortunately, despite that covenant, the children of Isreal were suffering in chains of slavery in a strange land.
Until the day they cried out to God for help. Exodus 6:5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. When we groan to God in prayers, God remembers His covenant over us and fulfill the covenant.
God Wants Us To Subdue The Earth
Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” The intention of God for man is for him to have dominion over the earth.
However, man lost his place after sin crept in. Man can not subdue the earth when he is prayerless. Temptations of the enemy will make him fall again. But when he prays fervently, God help him to overcome the temptations of the enemy.
