Today we shall be engaging in prayer for the nation of Gambia. Officially named the republic of Gambia in 1965 after gaining independence from the colonial rule of the British government. Though, Gambia was first noticed by the Portuguese who had begun colonization of some African states even before the British empire could think of coming into Africa. However, the Portuguese lose grip over Gambia in 1765 and the British government took over the territory of Gambia.

Gambia is greatly surrounded by the republic Senegal, as a matter of fact, during the colonial rule, the country was named Senegambia. When the nation of Gambia gained independence in 1965 which put an end to colonization, the government was built on multi-party liberal, Dawda Jawara ruled the country from Independence till 1996 when a bloodless coup was staged which threw him out of office. Yahya Jammeh was installed as the president under an authoritarian system of government. However, the country became a full democratic one in 2016 when Adama Barrow won the election.

The economy of Gambia is strongly built on subsistence agriculture. It must be noted that any nation whose economy is built on subsistence agricultural practises is an underdeveloped country. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the poverty level in Gambia gallantly sit at 74% especially in the rural areas.

I have heard different cases of God not being fair in distribution of wealth to different countries on earth. Meanwhile, God is not partial nor biase, He has given every man the potential to make exceeding wealth from the available resources that He has provided. The difference between United States of America and some badly underdeveloped countries in Africa is just the people.
Having said that, the scripture made it known that God owns the heart of man and kings and He direct it like the flow of rivers. Proverbs 21:1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. 2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. If we all raise an altar of prayer for the nation of Gambia, God can change the heart of the people.

WHY YOU SHOULD PRAY FOR THE NATION OF GAMBIA

The entire population of Namibia is posed at 2.6 million people. Since independence, the country has experienced a stable and constant multi-party parliamentary democracy. The economy is built on Agriculture, herding, tourism, mining of gem diamonds, uranium, gold, silver and many other mineral resources.

Namibia operates a similar system of government as Mauritius and Seychelles. With a system of government based on Unitarian presidential republic, the elected president serve as both the head of government and head of state.
Good to note, the fate of Namibia’s economy is tied to the success of South Africa because of their shared history. And it is worthy of note that South Africa’s economy is one of the fastest growing in Africa. However, despite Namibia’s high income and being ranked as a middle class income, still, about 26% of Namibians are living below poverty line, HIV victim’s ranked around 16.9% due to poverty and bad health issues.

The scripture says the effectual prayer of the righteous availeth much, this means that God can turn around the situation of the country when we all raise an altar of prayer for the nation of Namibia. There is no gainsaying that Namibia is suffering from a desert spirit that has rendered all their efforts fruitless and unproductive. Similar occurrence happened to Sarah, Abraham’s wife when she was rendered fruitless, but God turned the situation around and she became a mother. WHY YOU SHOULD PRAY FOR ZIMBABWE

Prayer is a means by which one draws on a higher/supernatural power or force. It is a means by which man shows is not sufficient on his own. Something went wrong somewhere at a particular point which resulted to the Zimbabwe we have today. Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain (Psalms 127: 1). The leaders can only try to make the nation better, but without God, it would be difficult. Let’s pray that God will rebuild Zimbabwe through her leaders in Jesus name.

Today we shall be engaging in prayer for the nation of Liberia. Liberia is located in the western part of Africa. Liberia is one of the countries in Africa with high rate of violent attacks. From the bloody coup led by Samuel Doe in 1980, which brought the invention of an authoritarian system of system on the Liberians, to the rebellion coup led by Charles Taylor to over throw the government of Samuel Doe in 1989. Charles Taylor’s rebellion act led to a bloody civil war in Liberia that lasted for a while. Samuel Doe died in the civil war yet peace wasn’t attained until 1997 when a peace accord treaty was signed and election was staged which brought Charles Taylor into office as the President of Liberia.

However, the peace accord didn’t last long. The early year 2000 witnessed another round of war in Liberia which led to the death thousands of Liberia citizens while many other were displaced. In the year 2003, Charles Taylor was convicted by the UN-backed special court for Sierra Leone in Hague, he was forced to resign and a transitional government was put in place to oversee the affairs of Liberia. The country eventually saw the light of true democracy in 2005 after an election was staged which brought Ellen Johnson Saleef into power as a democratic leader and ended the rule of a transitional government.

War is such a gory situation, the nation of Liberia was forced to start the nation building from the scratch again as if they just got an independent from colonial rule. Ellen Johnson Saleef was re-elected in 2011, she focused more on building the dented economy of Liberia throughout her stay in office. However, just when the eyes and thought of the world was shifted away from Liberia, the news of Ebola outbreak and Patrick Sanyer brought the attention of the world back on Liberia.

The case of Ebola is still at large in Liberia, the people voted for a new leader in 2018, but nothing has changed since they changed leaders. The people residing in the rural part of Zambia only engage in agriculture, they live in a world that has been secluded from the treasury bank of the nation. Heavily faced with starvation and malnutrition, lack of basic health amenities which has rudely increased the child mortality rate. Also, HIV and AIDS, Malaria among others are also one of the biggest killer of people in Zambia.
There is no gainsaying that the people of Zambia are living below the standard of God for their lives. The scripture (Jeremiah 29:11) made us to understand that God loves us and He have a good plan for us. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”.
