Death was defeated by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus took the keys of death and hades, Revelation 1:18. What is death?

The general definition of death is the act of dying or being killed, or the end of the life of a person or organism. This is a worldly and generally accepted definition. But the bible sees death differently. The bible does not see death as a “what” rather its see death as a “who”. Death is not just an event, death is not the end of life, these are characteristics of death, death is a spirit being or beings. Death is an Arch Angel, and there are many angels of death under the arch angel of death. What is the purpose of the death angel? There purpose is to kill. We also have another Arch angel called Hades or hell or the grave, the purpose of this angel is to harvest dead souls to the underworld or waiting place. Now, how do I know this?, let’s see what the bible tells us in Revelation 6:8:8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

From the above scripture, we see that death was the rider of the pale horse, and hades followed him. Do you ever wonder why when someone dies, they become pale, that is the angel of death at work. In the bible, the angel of death is also called the destroyer or destroying angels, See Exodus 12:23, 1 Corinthians 10:10, Revelation 9:11. This angel is Gods war angel, responsible for defending Gods people by taking lives or punishing God’s people by destroying them when they go astray. But why all this information?, When the devil fell from heaven, two third of the angels fell with him, amongst them was the Arch Angel of death, and Hades ( Hell or grave), this angels through the authority of the devil ruled the world from the time of moses to the time of Jesus Christ.( Romans 5:12-14). Every servant of God that died from the beginning of time to the time of Christ, none of them could ascend to heaven because of the angel of death and hades. This spirits held them captive until Christ came.

When Jesus died, he went to hell and conquered death and hell,( Hebrews 2:14), took the keys ( Authority) of death and hell from them and set all their captives free, that is why in Matthew 27:52 you see that all the saints of old who had died, rose up from the grave ( hades) and ascended to heaven with Christ.There souls where finally free and saved. And that is not all, on the last day, the angel of death and hades will join the devil into the lake of fire which is the second death. Because they rebelled with the devil, they too will be cast into the lake of fire and there shall be no more death.
